This is an exciting time to join the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (formerly the Liquor Control and Licensing Branch) as we?continue to transform the provincial approach to regulating liquor and implement the provincial licensing of non-medical cannabis private retail stores following the October 17th, 2018 federal legalization of non-medical cannabis.

With staff in Victoria, Surrey, Vancouver and regional offices across the province, the Branch works to protect public safety and to minimize the health and social harms of alcohol and non-medical cannabis. The Branch issues licences in B.C. for making and selling liquor and will soon issue licences for non-medical cannabis private retail sales. It currently regulates 10,000+ licensees, including pubs, bars, lounges, stadiums, nightclubs and restaurants, liquor stores, breweries, distilleries, wineries, and UBrews/UVins. In addition, the Branch regulates almost 30,000 Special Event Permit events, for events like concerts and weddings each year.

The Branch is comprised of three divisions: Program and Strategic Services Division (Business Transformation, Communications and Stakeholder Relations, Policy & Legislation, and Management Services), Licensing Division (licensing and local government liaison) and the Compliance and Enforcement Division (both regional and HQ).

Reporting to the Manager of Investigations, Compliance and Enforcement, the?Auditor position contributes to the planning and delivery of audits and reviews of liquor and cannabis sector participants to evaluate compliance with regulatory requirements, assess financial integrity of licensees, and complete other reviews or audits as deemed necessary.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Current professional accounting designation: CPA in good standing

A minimum of 1 year of recent (within the last 2 years), related experience:

  • Conducting financial compliance audits, or audit components, of public/private sector organizations.
  • Contributing to the preparation of audit reports and recommendations.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • A degree in Public Administration, Criminology, or Business.
  • Experience contributing to audit services in a regulatory environment.
  • Experience in the regulatory oversight of a controlled substance supply chain.
  • Advanced education/certification in Financial Audit such as CIA or CISA

Willingness Statements:

  • Travel occasionally to locations throughout the province.
  • Interact with stakeholders who may be unreliable or hostile.
  • Work outside normal business hours, occasionally, to meet deadlines.
