The Early Childhood Educator Registry (Registry) is the legislated authority responsible for the certification of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and ECE Assistants and the investigation of complaints and practice concerns regarding ECEs and ECE Assistants. The Registry also monitors and supports post-secondary educational institutions recognized to offer early childhood education training programs.
The Investigations Practice Consultant provides orientation, training and expert consultation to new and existing staff on the ECE Registry’s Investigations Team; including Intake and Early Resolution (IER) Officers and IER Coordinator, Investigators, and Senior Investigators who are working throughout the Province. The position provides expert consultation to management, supervisors and staff, regarding serious, complex issues of child abuse and neglect and is responsible for ensuring that the ECE Registry’s mandate remains a priority within an integrated service delivery framework.? In addition, the Practice Consultant assists in employee development by coordinating cross-training opportunities for current staff in order for them to gain expertise in other positions in the ECE Registry.
This is a senior level position that requires a specialized and in-depth knowledge of Investigations, Administrative Law and Natural Justice, the Child Care Sector Occupational Competencies, applicable legislation and the early care and learning sector in British Columbia. This position is responsible to develop, implement and evaluate operational policies/procedures, identify learning gaps to inform the development of staff orientation and training programs and to provide evidence-based advice and direction to Investigations Team staff regarding practice in order to ensure consistent, quality practice and adherence to administrative law principles.
- Travel throughout the Province is required for this position. Frequency of travel will be dependent upon circumstances.
- Successful candidates must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.
- Successful candidates may be required to use own vehicle, with appropriate insurance coverage, on an expense account basis.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
? – Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and formal training* in investigation techniques and administrative law plus 3 years of progressive and recent, related experience OR
? – Diploma in Early Childhood Education or related field and formal training* in investigation techniques and administrative law plus 4 years of progressive and recent, related experience OR??
? – Certificate in Early Childhood Education or related field and formal training* in investigation techniques and administrative law and a minimum of 5 years of progressive and recent, related experience.
*Formal training in investigation techniques may be completed on the job and/or at a post-secondary educational institution.
Recent, related experience must include all of the following:
– Progressive experience in a regulatory role; monitoring compliance, conducting investigations, taking enforcement action, and writing technical reports.
– Developing and applying legislation, operation policies and procedures, and practice tools.
– Analyzing and evaluating program performance.
– Establishing collaborative relationships with all levels of staff, including senior management, and external stakeholders.
– Experience leading projects from conception to completion within a collaborative work environment.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
– A Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Early Childhood Education and hold (or eligible to hold) British Columbia Early Childhood Educator certification.
– Experience developing, implementing and evaluating staff orientation and training programs.
– Experience working in a licensed child care facility and/or in the early care and learning sector.
